How it works
MATE-XB is a fully passive exoskeleton — no motors, no batteries. A mechanical spring mechanism stores and releases energy in sync with natural trunk flexion. Support is zero at 0° (upright position) — no interference while walking or standing — and increases progressively as the worker bends forward, reaching maximum assistance at peak flexion. Five resistance levels can be set by the worker to match task intensity without removing the device. The carbon fiber back structure promotes better posture throughout the full shift.
Suited for these tasks
Floor-level picking
Repetitive retrieval of items from low shelves, ground level, and pallets in warehouse and logistics environments.
Manual handling & loading
Loading and unloading boxes, crates, and heavy components where the trunk bends repeatedly over a full shift.
Low-station assembly
Underbody assembly, floor-level installation, and component fitting requiring sustained forward trunk posture.
Agricultural harvesting
Fruit and vegetable picking, row-crop work and ground-level planting involving extended bending durations.
FAQ
Does MATE-XB weaken muscles over time?
No. The device reduces excessive muscle load without providing full gravitational support, which means muscles continue to work naturally. There is no evidence of muscle tone deterioration with regular use.
Can the assistance level be adjusted without removing the device?
Yes. The worker can independently set one of five resistance levels at any time during the shift to match task intensity or fatigue level — without taking off the exoskeleton.
Does MATE-XB interfere with walking or standing?
No. Support is zero at 0° (upright position). The device provides no resistance while walking or standing — assistance activates only when the trunk bends forward.
What maintenance does MATE-XB require?
Minimal. Soft textile parts are removable, washable and reusable. Mechanical components require only periodic cleaning. A check-up with Comau is recommended after 12 months of use.
Who should not use MATE-XB?
Workers with specific medical conditions should consult their doctor before use. Pregnant women should not use the device under any circumstances.
Is MATE-XB certified?
Yes — EU Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and EU PPE Regulation 2016/425 (Cat. II). Certified by TÜV Rheinland and ANCCO.
